Thanks in advance for anything you guys can teach me on this subject.

To have 100% guarantee subsonic out of that weapon system, I would need a 1,040 fps muzzle velocity round right?(accounting for suppressor speed up) At the lowest temperature, the sound barrier will be at 1,056 fps. For this question let's assume I will be hunting in an environment that will never be lower than 5 degrees Fahrenheit. According to air temp effects upon the speed of sound, does this mean I am going to be firing a supersonic round if I am hunting in a 20 degree Fahrenheit environment? What I'm trying to do is squeeze the last available FPS out of a subsonic round, given the interfering effects of air temp and suppressor increase. If I fire these rounds through that rifle and the suppressor, the round is probably going to speed up by about 15 FPS max (from what I've seen with velocity tests on suppressors), so the bullet will travel, initially, at 1,085 fps or around that range. Now that you have the opening data, on to the main question. Target plinking is not my thing other than honing the accuracy of the weapon for future hunting success. I generally want to use it for Sub 100 yd hunting and possibly 100-200 if at all possible. Money is not an issue with purchasing the rounds, but if anyone knows of a better "available" brand and type, my ears are open. 22 LR subsonic ammo to use, and came accross Lapua Center-X Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Lead Round Nose firing at a muzzle velocity of 1073 fps. I am thinking of buying a CZ 455 Varmint Tacticool Suppressor ready, along with a Sparrow 22 suppressor and a Barska 6-20x50 IR Tactical Scope (none of this is applicable to the question but just putting all information out). I've been searching for a day and half on you tube, forums for an answer to an ammo worry I'm having about some things I wish to buy upcoming. 22lr as dedicated sub guns.īear in mind that its some times better to have less power and the round stay in the animal, than more power and the bullet pass clean through it when talking about. If you need to shoot fast with a rimmy then try the. if I zero at 50 with the eleys the velocitors will be 1 mill dot hight (10x) at 50 yards without zero adjustment then drop to zero at yards.

they also retain more energy out at range 100 yards. my browning 52 will group these at between 0.25 - 0.6 inch at 50 yards. if you have to shoot flatter and noisy in. also they tend to pass through things to much not dumping the energy in the animal. so by 100 yards its not got much more power than the subs. because its falling/traveling faster say 1600 it also slows down faster. try loads of brands TEST FOR GROUP TIGHTNESS by aiming at one spot, usually there will be at least one bullet type that outperforms the rest then stick to it forever until you die!! joke If I were you I would do what the post above said. some days it will group good others excellent with eley. I only use subs, been through a few different ones but my cz455 loves Eley 40gr hollowpoint subs so thats the only ammo i buyĪnother one for eley subs, they have a rabbit on the box. Now you know your drop at all of those ranges and can make a simple little chart of corrections needed to shoot accurately at every distance. It is consistency that is required.įinally setup targets at, say, 10 - 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 - 60 - 70 - yards and aiming at the bull (it does not matter where the bullet goes) take 5 shots at each.īroadly speaking, your shots before and after 50 yards will shoot low and at 50 yards it should hit centre. If not you need practice or a different make of ammunition or something is not quite right with your setup. Hopefully at that distance you will be able to shoot 5 shot groups that can be covered by a 50p coin. Measure the distance accurately not by paces or by guessing, use a laser or a tape measure. Only then is it worth spending time shooting targets, accurately zeroing the rifle and working out the drop at different distances by shooting at targets at those distances.ĭifferent shooters will have their own preferences but to get you started zero at 50 yards. Then buy the ammunition that is most suited to your gun in as large a batch quantity as you can afford or are allowed (500?) and stick to it. Always aim at the centre of the cross for every shot no matter where it lands (as long as it hits the target somewhere!). It does not really matter where the bullets land on the target.

Just shoot at a big piece of paper with a cross scribbled on it as a target set at 50 yards. My advice is to use subsonics but that is a personal decision.Īs has been stated many many times, purchase a box each of several makes of ammunition and see which gives the tightest group (is most accurate in your gun). Hopefully you cleaned it thoroughly to remove the protective grease and muck from the barrel before firing your first shot?
